This piece was inspired by advocacy group ACT UP's "Silence=Death" poster in response to the Reagan administration's general silence regarding the AIDS epidemic. Originating in Nazi death camps, pink became synonymous with the gay rights movement. In an attempt to show the intersectionality of gender, race and sexual orientation that has been all too frequently overlooked in this election cycle, I borrowed heavily from Audre Lorde's "The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action." She states that, "Death is the final silence" and, "Your silence will not protect you." Caught in the crosshairs, women share the war against the oppressions of silence.
